Five Gold Medals for Team Nigeria on Day 4 of African U20 & U18 Championships

Day four of the ongoing CAA African U20 & U18 Championships at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Ivory Coast saw Team Nigeria win five more Gold medals on the day with three of them coming from the relay events.

Day four of the ongoing CAA African U20 & U18 Championships at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Ivory Coast saw Team Nigeria win five more Gold medals on the day with three of them coming from the relay events.

The relay medal rush started off with the Girls’ and Boys’ U18 categories which were done in a medley format which involves two 100m and 400m athletes combining to run.

The Girls’ U18 category was first and Favour Ofili ran the anchor leg and stirred home the Gold medal for the team in a time of 3:47.54, while the Boys had to settle for a Silver medal while the South African Boys’ relay team, picked up Gold.

In the U20 women’s category, the quartet of Rosemary Chukwuma, Grace Nwokocha, Stella Ayanleke, and Esther Okan combined in the 4x100m final to help Nigeria win GOLD in a time of 45.54s.

 

Enoch Adegoke running the anchor leg for the men’s U20 team was too fast for his South African counterpart as he built on the lead of the trio of Gershon Omubo, Shedrack Akpeki and Alaba Akintola to win Gold for the team in a time of 40.20s.

Rosemary Chukwuma led a 1-3 finish in the women’s U20 200m final as she crossed the finish line clocking 23.81s to win Gold while teammate Esther Okon had to settle for a Bronze medal.

In the Girls U18 200m final, Favour Ofili was the star as she crossed the finish line in 23.39s to make it her second individual Gold medal at the championship while teammate Anita Taviore who was fourth in the 100m final finished second to win Nigeria’s first Silver medal at this year’s championship.

Best Erhire also picked up a silver medal in the Boys’U18 triple jump.
