Itsekiri, Bamidele shine at 2017 AFN Golden League meeting in Kaduna

Jerry Jakpa finished in second place (10.49) ahead of veteran sprinter Obinna Metu (10.49), Adegoke Enoch (10.67), Abejoye Oyeniyi (10.73) and Ojeikere Precious (10.82) in that order. Abiola Soyemi (10.87) was 7th while Edwin Peter returned 11.38 in eight place..

Isoken Igbinosun won the women’s 100m final, crossing the finish in 11.42 with a wind aided race reading at +2.5m/s.

Maria Thompson-Omokwe led for the first 80m. Igbinosun who was absent at the All-Comers meet which took place a week ago in Abuja, stopped the clock in a time 11.42 (+2.5). Thompson-Omokwe (11.52) and Marvelous Asemota (11.70) came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Abejoye Oyeniyi and Grace Ayemoba were the athletes to beat in the men’s 110m Hurdles and women’s 100m Hurdles as they emerged victorious, clocking 14.21 and 13.60 respectively.

In the men’s 400m final, Bamidele Emmanuel made it a double triumph within the space of a week as he sped away from the rest of the field to cross the finish line in a time of 46.48.

Orukpe Erayokan (47.07) who was left chasing Bamidele towards the home straight, settled for 2nd while Emmanuel Ojeli set a new PB of 47.74 to finish third.

Ifunanya Muoghalu set a new PB to win the women’s 400m final in a time of 54.50.

Grace Anigbata (1.75m) won the women’s High Jump, while the duo of Tobechukwu Nwokocha (7.15m) and Pius Nzube (15.85m) won the men’s Long Jump and Triple Jump respectively.

In the women’s relay events, Team Civil Defence (44.87s) made up of the quartet of Ayemoba, Thompson- Omokwe, Igbinosun and Asemota finished three seconds ahead of Team MoC to win the women’s 4x100m race.

In Javelin, Customs man, Kure Samuel Adams won with 70.35m leaving behind Prison’s Ezeofor Kenechukwu and Civil Defender Pius Nzuba to take second and third positions with 64.72m and 32.92m respectively.

The female had no surprises. Civil Defender Nwanaga Kelechi won with 52.62m. the second place went to her compatriot Francis Ruth Oluwakemi who had 35.93m. Edeh Nebechi of Immigration had 32.73m and Eze Chinonso of Prisons had 29.83m.

The next leg of the AFN Golden League is scheduled to hold on the weekend of 26 – 27 of January, 2018 in Lagos.
